TV Series Review: Gilmore Girls (Season 3 and Season 4)

During these two seasons both storylines are interesting: while Rory is applying for several colleges, Lorelai is trying to open her inn with Sookie.

Rory's struggle to decide which college is the best for her is something relatable, but that means that those amazing Friday night dinners are in jeopardy. That is when the financial aid for [spoiler: Yale] doesn't arrive, Rory decides to take it into her own hands and ask her grandparents for money with the condition to pay them back and restore those dinners. This takes us back to season 1 when Lorelai had to sit on that same couch and ask her parents for money to pay for Chilton. This similarity shows, once again, that the Gilmore girls think alike.
We also see Rory at college and her first steps towards journalism, her dream job. Even though at the beginning she had some problems adjusting to the new criteria, she then revealed to be a ruthless journalist.

Even though Lorelai suffered a heartbreak because of [spoiler: Christopher], her focus during season three and four is to build her own inn. This allows Lorelai to reveal herself to the viewers since she sometimes is alone in this dream. It's not her partner's dream, but the truth is that Lorelai relies on her friends and sometimes they disappoint her. This is a more serious side of Lorelai that suited her very well. It is good to see her funny side, but it also reassures the viewer that, when it comes to making difficult decisions, she is also there. It also is a very important side of her since she is going to run an inn by herself.

Regards the relationship between our two main characters, it is clear that their dynamic changed. Rory is taking some responsibility at Chilton and, eventually, moves to go to college. This pause in the bond is clearer when Rory returns home for the weekends or holidays. When they get together, they try to make it last.

Honorable mentions:

-Jess, Rory's second boyfriend. This boy showed a more wild side of Rory, but we never stopped seeing who she really is. Jess allowed her to discover a more reckless side of life that she hadn't seen it yet. Dean was the perfect boyfriend, but Jess takes her to the edge of adventure. He left without saying a word and said the three words too late when Rory was no longer the girl he knew.

-Paris, Rory's... friend? Well, they're definitely building a friendship in these two seasons, especially when they go to the same college and have to live with each other. She is one of the best characters of the show if the viewer lets go of some of her more annoying extravagancies.

-Jason, Lorelai's love interest. This relationship brought Lorelai's fun side but also a side of Lorelai that shows that she can invest in her relationships, something that was questionable since Max Medina. Jason, unfortunately, decided to go against her father and Lorelai ended the relationship.

-Lane, Rory's best friend from Stars Hollow. I completely adore the fact that she stands up for what she believes. She sends a very strong message to the world. These last two seasons gave her the time to grow and make her own decisions. The truth is that Lane always manages to make a lemonade when life gives her lemons.

-Luke. He finally got the girl! And I won't say anything else. Wait for season five review!
